"Memories" at "The Container"
Solo Exhibition in Tel Aviv Jaffo
Three days. Three nights. 13 by 4 metres.
When "The Container" opened in Tel Aviv-Jaffa in 2010, I was asked to contribute at short notice – and I said yes. What followed was one of the most intense working periods of my life. I reached for what is always there: fragments of memory, old sketches, images that have stayed with me for years.
The night before the installation, I laid out all the prepared fragments on the large rooftop terrace of my studio in the centre of Tel Aviv – to get an overview, to find a last sense of order. Then the storm came. Within minutes, the pieces were scattered across half the neighbourhood. I collected them back, one by one, street by street, against the clock.
Maybe that is exactly what lives inside the finished work. That disorder which somehow still comes together. Layer by layer, it became "Memories" – a collage that took over the entire room.
I still call it "The Big One".
